Welcome to my worlds!

Intro

A graduate of Baruch College in NYC (BA), and Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus (MA), I’m a storyteller whose work draws from lived experiences and a restless imagination, creating stories that are bold and deeply human. I’m drawn to perspectives that society often overlooks—stories that are not always what they seem, that resonate below the surface. I’m committed to stepping into the unknown, and believe originality takes root in experimentation and uncharted spaces—when we’re willing to explore without knowing the destination. That’s where new possibilities reveal themselves.

I’ve written four children’s books, two in both English and Spanish under pseudonym Lucy Aponte, as well as a book of short stories and a motivational non-fiction book under pseudonym JP Luce, all found on Amazon via the links found on the top right of this page (all book titles are listed under List of Works, below). Further, the non-fiction book can also be found at Strand Books, and both adult books can be found at Barnes & Noble; links are also above right.

Additionally, my first short film was honored with three Semi Finalist laurels, seen above.

Early Life

An Afro-Latina born in Salinas, Puerto Rico—located on the southern coast of the island—my parents brought me to Brooklyn when I was just six months old. I’ve been here ever since. Early on, I spent summers on my beloved grandfather’s farm in Puerto Rico, running barefoot after farm animals and climbing fruit trees. I’ve always loved writing and would write short stories in an old-fashioned, black & white notebook. When a fire destroyed our home, taking my stories with it, I stopped writing for a while, mourning the loss of those early musings. Eventually, I found my way back to myself.

Career and Inspiration

A Compliance Professional at several institutions in NY and NJ, as well as a Brooklyn Navy Yard Coordinator before returning to creative writing, I was inspired to write again after the death of my maternal grandfather. I couldn’t shake the nostalgia for what it would be like to share experiences with him once again. The idea implanted itself so deeply in my psyche that I was forced to either free it or perish under its weight.

Finding it difficult to write as much as I wanted to while working full-time, I followed the suggestion of a magnet pasted on my fridge that advised: leap, and the net will appear. These words provided me with the impetus to walk away from my ‘nth office job to finish my passion project, The Absence.

I began to write a story which resembled my own—a story about a chemist whose grief propels her to steal her uncle’s recipe for a drug that, while sleeping, transports its users to a dream world where they can relive vivid memories of their dead loved ones, a drug she then mass produces and traffics so others, too, can experience some solace. Unfortunately, she underestimates one key component in her venture: human behavior. Users yearning to extend their trip to their chosen memory begin misusing the drug, causing them to overdose, become trapped in their dreams and, consequently, enter The Absence.
